How Stitch suggests members to you

Learn how Stitch recommends member profiles to you, and what you can do to improve your own profile so more members find you.

Wondering why Stitch shows you certain members and not others?

Stitch recommends member profiles based on several factors, including your preferences, shared interests, and how active each member is. Understanding how this works - and what you can do to improve your own ranking - helps you get more out of the Members page.

How Stitch chooses which members to suggest

Stitch recommends member profiles to you based on a combination of factors:

  • Your companionship preferences - for example, whether you are looking for friendship or romance

  • Your distance preferences - how far you are willing to travel to meet someone

  • The number of interests you share with that member

  • How responsive that member is to new messages

  • How active that member is in the Stitch community

  • Profile quality

Member cards on the Members page highlight the specific reasons Stitch recommended that person to you. For example, a card might show that a member is very responsive and shares three interests with you.

What the member card icons mean

Each member card on the Members page includes icons and highlights that give you useful context at a glance.

Highlights (shown as colored pills at the top of the card):

  • "Extremely responsive" or "Very responsive" - this member replies quickly and consistently to new messages.

  • "X shared interests" - you and this member share that number of interests.

Profile photo area:

  • Interests listed - the member's interests appear across the bottom of their photo.

  • Green dot - a green dot on the small profile photo means this member was active on Stitch today.

Below the member's name:

  • Red heart icon - this member is looking for romance.

  • Teal people icon - this member is looking for friendship.

  • Both icons together - this member is open to both.

  • Status badge - the star icon shows this member's Stitch status level (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond).

  • Connection count - shows how many Stitch connections this member has.

  • Years badge - shows how long this member has been on Stitch.

Note: Member cards only show highlights relevant to you - two members viewing the same profile may see different highlights.

How to improve your profile ranking

Stitch uses both your profile information and your activity in the community to decide whether to suggest you to other members. Here is what makes the biggest difference.

  1. Add interests to your profile. Aim for at least 6 interests. You can add up to 20. Members with more interests appear in more suggestions.

  2. Complete your profile. Add multiple photos, answer all profile questions, and write a full About Me description. Very short About Me descriptions are shown to other members less often.

  3. Reply to new messages. Stitch marks you as "Very responsive" when you reply to messages from members you have not spoken to before. A brief, polite reply - even to decline - counts toward your responsiveness rating.

  4. Get involved in the community. Members who participate actively in groups, discussions, and community events receive more connection requests from other members.

  5. Broaden your companionship preferences. If you are only open to romance, you may be missing connections. Many lasting relationships on Stitch started as friendships.

Note: Profile ranking changes are not instant. Give your updates a little time to take effect before checking whether your suggestions have changed.
