Get verified on Stitch

Learn how to verify your identity on Stitch using a photo or a Community Champion. Verification is free and confirms you are a real person, giving you full access to the Stitch community.

Written by Andrew Dowling

Stitch requires all members to verify their identity to keep the community safe from scammers and fake profiles. Verifying confirms you are a real person and unlocks full access to everything Stitch has to offer.

Stitch offers two free ways to verify your identity: a photo verification using a unique code, or verification by a Community Champion. Before you start, make sure you have completed the initial email verification that Stitch sent when you created your account.

Watch the video below to see how verification works, or read on for step-by-step instructions for both methods.

Get verified with a photo

Photo verification is the quickest way to confirm your identity on Stitch. You take a photo of yourself holding a piece of paper with your unique Stitch verification code written on it - no personal documents required.

If you have a webcam, iPhone, or Android phone, taking the photo takes around 30 seconds. You can submit it through the Stitch website or by email.

To complete photo verification:

  1. Go to your Stitch profile and select More in the top menu.

  2. Select Profile & Settings.

  3. Select Verification.

  4. Select the Photo verification button.

  5. Stitch will display your unique verification code and instructions for the photo.

  6. Write your code on a piece of paper, hold it clearly in front of your face, and take the photo. Here's an example photo:

  7. Choose how you want to submit your photo:

    1. Take your photo - use your webcam or phone camera directly.

    2. Upload a picture - upload a photo already saved on your device.

    3. Send via email - send your photo to verifications@stitch.net from the email address linked to your Stitch account. Use this option if you are taking the photo on a different device than the one you use for Stitch.

  8. Submit your photo

The Stitch review team will usually verify your account within 24 hours. You will receive a confirmation email and an in-app notification once the review is complete.

Note: Make sure your face is clearly visible and not obscured, and that the verification code is legible. Poor lighting is the most common reason photos are rejected.

Troubleshooting photo verification

If your photo verification is not going as expected, here are the most common fixes:

  • Photo rejected: Retake the photo in better lighting. Make sure your full face is visible and the verification code on the paper is easy to read.

  • No confirmation after 24 hours: Check your email inbox, including your spam or junk folder. If there is still no confirmation, contact the Stitch Support team to check your verification status.

  • Not sure if verification worked: Check whether your profile is visible on the members page. If it is, your verification was successful.

  • Problems uploading or submitting: Contact the Stitch Support team directly. The team can process your verification without needing a website upload.

Get verified by a Community Champion

A Community Champion is a Stitch member who has hosted at least three Stitch events. Champions carry a purple Community Champion badge on their profile, which looks like this:

You can get verified by a Community Champion in three ways:

  1. You know a Champion personally - if a Community Champion knows you outside of Stitch (for example, a neighbor or friend), they can verify you directly.

  2. A Champion invites you to an event - if a Community Champion sends you a personal invitation to one of their in-person Stitch events through the platform, they can verify you at that event.

  3. You sign up using a Champion's member code - if you joined Stitch using a Community Champion's member code, that Champion can verify your account.

We understand that some members need a little bit of extra help to get verified. If you're having trouble with the verification process, the Stitch Support team can assist you directly and may even be able to verify you through alternative methods. Just contact us or email us at verifications@stitch.net and we would be happy to help!
