How attendance works at Stitch events

Learn how attendance marking works at Stitch events, what happens if you miss an event without notice, and how organizers confirm who attended.

Written by Andrew Dowling

Showing up matters at Stitch — for the people who organized an event and for the whole community.

This article explains how attendance marking works, what happens when members don't show up without notice, and how Stitch uses attendance to keep the community safe and trustworthy.

How attendance helps keep Stitch safe

Stitch uses attendance records to build trust in the community. Members who show up at events are verified as real, active participants. Each time an organizer marks a member as having attended, Stitch uses that signal to verify the member's location and behavior and increase their trust rating.

Members who repeatedly do not attend events will have lower trust ratings on Stitch. This affects how much access and visibility Stitch gives them on the platform.

How attendance marking improves the community

Organizing a Stitch event takes real effort. When members RSVP and then don't show up without notice, it's disappointing for the organizer, and it affects the whole group.

The Stitch Community Guidelines ask attendees to let their host know ahead of time if they can no longer attend. When an organizer marks a member as a no-show, Stitch sends that member guidance on community expectations and encourages them to communicate better in future.

Stitch would rather members speak up, and organizers mark no-shows, so the whole community stays a reliable, respectful place to connect.

Important: Members who repeatedly miss events without notifying the organizer will eventually have their Stitch account suspended.

How to mark attendance for an in-person event

After hosting an in-person event, you need to mark attendance manually for your attendees.

A few hours after your in-person event ends, Stitch sends you an email prompting you to mark attendance. Stitch also prompts you the next time you open the app. Marking attendance is optional, but doing it for every event you host helps keep the whole community safe and takes only a few seconds.

To mark attendance:

  1. Open the attendance marking screen (from the email prompt or the in-app prompt).

  2. For each member listed, select the checkmark if you are sure they attended.

  3. Select the X if you are sure they did not attend.

  4. Leave the selection blank if you are not sure.

  5. Select the Submit button when you are done.

Note: Each time you complete attendance for an event, Stitch awards you 200 Membership Points.

Important: You can only mark attendance up to 7 days after your event ended. After 7 days, the option is no longer available.

How to confirm attendance for a virtual event

Stitch automatically detects who attended your virtual event, but asks you to review and confirm the results as the organizer.

After your virtual event ends, Stitch shows you a list of members it has flagged as not having attended. Your job is to check that list for anyone who should not be on it.

To confirm virtual event attendance:

  1. Click continue on the confirmation screen (Stitch prompts you after the event ends, see screenshot below).

  2. Review the list of members flagged as non-attendees.

  3. Select Remove next to any member who did actually attend — removing them takes them off the no-show list.

  4. Select Submit when you are done.

Important: If an attendee joined your event directly from a Zoom link you shared (rather than through Stitch), Stitch will not have recorded them as attending. Select Remove next to their name so Stitch does not mark them as a no-show. Similarly, if an attendee told you in advance they could not attend, select Remove next to their name for the same reason.

What happens if you miss a Stitch event

Stitch understands that life gets in the way sometimes. Missing an event occasionally is not a problem. What matters is letting your organizer know ahead of time.

Here is what happens if an organizer marks you as a no-show:

  1. First no-show: Stitch sends you an email explaining the Stitch Community Guidelines and encourages you to notify your host next time.

  2. Second no-show: Stitch sends you a follow-up reminder and explains the importance of RSVPing accurately.

  3. Third no-show: Stitch temporarily suspends your ability to attend Stitch events and asks you to contact the Stitch team.

Note: If you attend 3 events in a row without being marked as a no-show, your no-show record resets to zero.

The short video below explains the no-show process and the community guidelines behind it.
