How to find, attend, and create activities on Stitch

Everything you need to know about activities on Stitch - how to find and attend them, or create and manage your own.

Written by Andrew Dowling

If you want to get out and meet people, Stitch activities are a great place to start. Every week, members around the world organize and attend activities — from coffee catch-ups and day trips to virtual get-togethers you can join from home.

This article explains how to find activities near you, what you can attend based on your membership, and how to create or suggest your own.

Key terms: activities, events, and suggestions

Before diving in, here are three terms you'll come across on Stitch:

  • Activity: an organized outing or get-together with a confirmed date, time, and location. Activities range from small (a coffee for two) to large (a dinner for 20).

  • Suggestion: an idea floated to the community to find interested members. A Suggestion has no confirmed date or location yet. Suggesting something does not commit you to organizing it. Suggestions appear on the feed with a Possibility badge.

  • Event: used for larger-scale activities, such as a community-wide dinner or holiday gathering. Stitch treats activities and events the same way on the platform, both appear on the Events & Activities feed.

How to find the activities feed

To find activities on Stitch:

  1. Select Community from the top navigation bar.

  2. Select Activities from the drop down

The Events & Activities page will open showing activities posted by members near you.

Each activity card shows the activity title, type (In Person, Virtual, or Possibility), organizer name, date, time, location, number of attendees, and comment count.

What events and activities can I attend?

What you can attend depends on your membership tier.

Limited members (members who have not yet upgraded to a paid Full membership) can attend most activities on Stitch. Activities reserved for Full members are shown with a lock symbol (see screenshot below), and cannot be joined until you upgrade.

Newly registered Limited members are also welcome at many Full-member activities, as a way to help new members experience the Stitch community. After this initial period, those activities will appear with a lock symbol.

Full members can attend all activities on Stitch with no restrictions.

How to filter and search for activities

To filter which activities appear on your feed, click the filter bar at the top of the Events & Activities page which shows your current settings, for example - "All activities – 25km – Sydney." To change your search settings click the filter options as shown in the screenshot below,

The filter options are:

  • Show: choose from: All activities, Local activities, Virtual activities, My past activities, All past activities, or Pending activities.

  • Distance: set how far from your location to search.

  • Location: change the search location. Useful if you're traveling and want to see what's on in another city.

  • From: set a start date to see activities from that date onward. Defaults to today.

  • Sort by: sort activities by date or newest posted.

Select Search to apply your filters, Cancel to close the panel without changing anything, or Reset to default to clear your filters.

How to attend an activity

To attend an activity on Stitch:

  1. Open the activity you want to join.

  2. Select the green Attend button near the top of the page. Stitch will register you as an attendee.

  3. You'll be given the option to subscribe to comments on the activity so you can follow any updates.

Once you've signed up, it's a good idea to leave a comment to introduce yourself, let the organizer know you're coming, and get to know the other attendees. Select the comment field and then Post Comment to share your message.

To cancel your attendance: open the activity page and select the Attend button again to unregister. If you need to cancel, do so as early as possible so the organizer can plan accordingly.

Note: the organizer receives a notification each time a member registers for their activity.

How to create or suggest an activity

Any Stitch member can create or suggest an activity.

To get started:

  1. Go to the Events & Activities feed (Community > Events & Activities).

  2. Select the Suggest an Activity button in the top right corner.

  3. Choose between:

    • Organize: you're committing to run the activity. You'll set a confirmed date and location.

    • Suggest: you're floating an idea to the community as a way to find other members interested. No confirmed date or location needed. Learn more about Suggestions here.

If you choose Organize, Stitch will guide you through a series of steps to set up your activity, prompting you at each step for the required activity details. At the end, you'll see a full preview before you submit.

Important: after you submit, Stitch reviews your activity before it goes live on the feed.

Both in-person and virtual activities are supported. In-person activities connect you with members in your local area. Virtual activities let members join from home - particularly valuable for members in rural areas or during bad weather. Learn how to create a virtual activity here.

How to edit an activity

To edit an activity you have organized:

  1. Open the activity you wish to edit.

  2. Select the field you want to change — including the title, description, address, attendee limit, and date.

  3. Make your changes and save.

Note: editing an activity does not notify attendees automatically. If the date, time, or location changes, post an Announcement in the comments (see below) so attendees are aware.

How organizers post announcements

If you organized an activity and need to share an update with attendees, such as a change of meeting point or a reminder about what to bring, you can post an Announcement.

To post an Announcement:

  1. Open your activity page and go to the Activity tab.

  2. Type your message in the comment field.

  3. Toggle on Make announcement and click Make Announcement.

Announcements notify all attendees regardless of whether they are following the conversation. Regular comments only notify members who have chosen to follow.

Note: as an organizer, your comments are posted as announcements by default. If you want to post a regular comment instead, toggle off Make announcement before posting.

How to recreate or duplicate an activity

Stitch gives organizers two ways to reuse an existing activity rather than starting from scratch.

Recreating a past activity

If an activity has already taken place and you'd like to run it again:

  1. Find the past activity on the Events & Activities feed. Past activities remain visible on Stitch after they've occurred. Use the Show filter and select All past activities to find them quickly.

  2. Open the activity page. You'll see a blue "Want to do this activity again?" banner with a Do This Again button.

  3. Select Do This Again. Stitch pre-fills a new activity form with the original details. Update the date, time, and any other details you want to change, then submit for review.

Duplicating an upcoming activity

If you organize recurring activities and want to repost the same one on a different date:

  1. Open the activity you want to duplicate.

  2. Select the Settings tab, then select Duplicate under "Duplicate this Activity."

  3. Stitch pre-fills the form with the existing details. Update the date, time, and any other details, then submit for review.

Note: in both cases, the attendee list is not carried over. The new activity starts with a fresh list.

How to cancel or delete an activity

To cancel an activity, you need to delete it. This is the only way to properly cancel — do not add "Cancelled" to the title, remove yourself as organizer, or post a comment, as attendees will not be notified correctly.

To delete an activity:

  1. Open the activity page.

  2. Select the Settings tab.

  3. Select Delete under "Delete this Activity."

  4. Confirm the deletion.

Important: deleting an activity is permanent and cannot be undone.
