If you've registered to attend a virtual activity on Stitch, you may be wondering how you join the event when the time for the event arrives. This article outlines how to make sure your system is set up properly before the activity starts, and what to do when the time comes to join.

Overview

Virtual activities on Stitch are held in one of two ways:

  • Using Stitch's own Stitch Video Chat functionality
  • Using a third-party video solution such as Zoom, Google Meet or Skype

Instructions for each type of event are outlined in the sections below.

Attending a Stitch Video Chat event

If the event you are attending uses Stitch Video Chat, you don't need to install anything prior to the event.

Just open the Activity details page prior to the event, and click the "Join Now" button when the meeting starts.

You will need to enable your video and microphone just before you join, as outlined in this article. After that there is no extra configuration or installation required for any future events.

Attending a Zoom event

If the event you are attending uses Zoom, you'll need to make sure you have installed Zoom prior to the event. You can install Zoom from this web page: https://zoom.us/download

  • If you’re using a desktop computer or laptop, look for the “Zoom Client for Meetings” heading. Click the download link and follow the instructions to install Zoom.
  • If you’re on an Android phone or tablet, look for the same “Zoom Client for Meetings” heading. Click the link to “Download from Google Play”.
  • If you’re on an Apple phone or tablet, click the provided download link and you’ll be taken directly to the App Store, where you can install Zoom.

Once Zoom is installed, test that your microphone and camera are working here: https://zoom.us/test

Just before your event is due to start, open the Activity detail page for the event, and click on the Zoom link. You will join the meeting when the event organizer starts the meeting.

Attending a Skype event

If the event you are attending uses Skype, you'll need to make sure you have installed Skype prior to the event. You can install Skype from this web page: https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/

  • If you’re on a desktop computer or laptop, download and install Skype under the “Skype for Desktop” heading.
  • If you’re on a phone or tablet, use the relevant Google Play or App Store link.

Once Skype is installed, and if you already have a Skype account, log in! Otherwise, check out this article on How to get started with Skype.

Once you’re logged in to Skype, we recommend you follow the instructions here to Make a Skype test call, then you’ll be ready to join the Video Chat when it starts.

Just before your event is due to start, open the Activity detail page for the event, and click on the Skype link. You will join the meeting when the event organizer starts the meeting.

Attending a Google Meet event

If the event you are attending uses Google Meet Video Chat, start by installing Google Meet from this webpage: https://apps.google.com/meet/

  • On your desktop computer or laptop:
If you’re on a desktop computer or laptop, you don’t need to install anything! However we recommend that you Start a meeting to make sure that your microphone and camera are working.

Your browser will prompt you to confirm that you grant permission for your camera and microphone to be used. Each browser will do this slightly differently: some will pop up a message box window, while others will show a prompt in the notifications area of your browser. It may look something like this:

IMPORTANT: You need to select Allow in the above step, or else you will not be able to participate in the Google Meet Video Chat.

  • On your mobile phone or tablet:
If you’re on a phone or tablet, download and install Google Meet from either Google Play or the App Store.

Just before your event is due to start, open the Activity detail page for the event, and click on the Google Meet link. You will join the meeting when the event organizer starts the meeting.

Attending a Microsoft Teams event

  • If you’re on a desktop computer or laptop, download and install Microsoft Teams using the “Download for desktop” button.
