Someone's reached out to you on Stitch. Whether it's a reply in a conversation you started or a first message from someone new, a message is a signal that another member would like to connect with you. Here's how to find your messages, respond to them, and manage your inbox.
Finding a new message
When someone messages you, the new message appears in your Messages.
You'll know one has arrived in two ways:
A red number on the Messages icon shows how many unread messages you have.
Inside your inbox, the new conversation is marked with a green New flag.
You'll also receive an email letting you know. Both the red number and the New flag clear once you open the conversation to read it.
Responding to a connection request
The first time a member messages you — someone you haven't exchanged messages with before — that's a connection request. It's one of the main ways people make new friends or find romance on Stitch, so it means something when one arrives.
A connection request gives you three ways to respond:
Reply — write a personal response. Even a brief "thanks, but no thanks" is appreciated.
Decline — sends a pre-written message that you can edit or replace before it goes.
Flag — if a message offends you or leaves a bad impression, flag it for review by the Stitch team.
We ask that you respond to every connection request in some way. There's nothing worse than sending one and hearing nothing back. How quickly and how often you reply also feeds your responsiveness rating, which other members can see on your profile — see about responsiveness ratings.
If you haven't responded to a request, Stitch reminds you of any outstanding requests every time you log in. The reminder continues until you've replied to, declined, or flagged each one.
Finding an earlier message
If your inbox holds a lot of conversations, use the search bar at the top of your Messages to find one. Type a member's name and you'll see all your messages to and from them.
Archiving a conversation
To tidy your inbox without losing the ability to hear from someone again, archive the conversation.
Open the conversation and click Manage, next to View Profile.
Select Archive.
When asked "Are you sure?", click Yes.
Archiving removes the conversation from your inbox, but you'll still receive future messages from that member if they message you again, the conversation comes back.
Stopping or reporting a member
If you'd rather not hear from a member at all, or you've received something inappropriate, open the conversation and click Manage. Alongside Archive, you'll find:
Block — stops the member sending you messages and attending events you organize. The member isn't notified of a direct-message block. For the full options, including event and group blocks, see how to block a member.
Report — reports inappropriate behavior to the Stitch team. If a member is behaving in a way that breaks the Stitch Community Rules & Guidelines, report them rather than only blocking, so we can investigate.
