Block a member from your messages, events, or group

Learn how to blocking lets you control how other members interact with you

Written by Andrew Dowling

Within Stitch, you may from time to time discover that there is another member in the community you would prefer not to engage with. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's helpful for you to know the different options you have for choosing how and when you interact with these members. You can block a member from sending you direct messages, attending events you organize, or accessing a group you own.

All Stitch members have a role in helping the overall goal of creating a safe, welcoming, and harmonious community for everyone. If you want to block a member because you believe they behave in ways that are out of step with the Stitch Community Rules & Guidelines, then instead of simply blocking them from your activities, we would prefer you report them to us. That way we can assess whether they need to be removed from Stitch altogether, so that all organizers can be protected from their behavior, not just you.

How to open the block settings

To open the block settings for a member:

  1. Go to the member's profile page.

  2. Click More (the three-dot menu).

  3. Select Block.

A block settings panel opens. This panel lets you choose whether to block the member from direct messages, from events you organize, or both.

Direct Messages

Blocking a member from direct messages prevents that member from sending you any new messages on Stitch. The member is not notified that you have applied a direct message block.

Events you organize - Do not invite option

Selecting 'Do not invite, but allow to attend' applies the following restrictions to that member:

- Stitch does not notify the member about events you publish.

- The member does not see your events listed on the Stitch Activities page.

- If another member shares a direct link to your event, the blocked member can still view the event details and attend.

Stitch allows attendance via shared links to reduce the likelihood that the member realises they have been restricted.

Events you organize - Block option

Selecting 'Block' applies stricter restrictions than 'Do not invite, but allow to attend'. A blocked member:

- Does not receive notifications about events you publish.

- Does not see your events listed on the Stitch Activities page.

- Cannot open your event even if another member sends them a direct link.

Note: Event blocking does not apply to Community Events. A Community Event is any event with a capacity of 50 or more members. All Stitch members can view and attend Community Events regardless of any event blocks you have set. Learn more

Update block settings

To update a member's block settings at any time, return to their profile page, click More, and select Block. The block settings panel shows the member's current restrictions and lets you change them.

Block a member from your Group

IMPORTANT: Blocking a member from your group sends that member an automatic notification telling them they have been blocked. This notification can cause conflict. Before using a group block, try the 'Do not invite' or Event Block options first. Use a group block only if those options are not sufficient.

Group owners can block a member from a group entirely. A group block removes that member's access to all events, discussions, and other activity within the group. This is different from an Event Block, which only restricts the member from individual events you host.

If you want to block a member from your group this request will be sent to the Stitch team for review. Stitch does this to ensure the platform is not used to exclude members in ways that conflict with Stitch's community values. Stitch will contact you with the outcome of the review.

Good to know

If you believe there is a member of your group who is acting inappropriately or is who is violating Stitch’s Community Guidelines, instead of blocking the member we ask you to report them to Stitch so we can investigate and suspend them from the community completely if required.
