Stitch Groups let members connect around shared interests — whether that's hiking, travel, books, or anything in between. Within a Group, members can join discussions, attend Activities, and build a closer community within the wider Stitch membership.
Groups can be as open or focused as their organizers choose. Group organizers and owners control who belongs to the Group, what gets posted, and how the Group runs.
Finding Stitch Groups
To find Stitch Groups, follow these steps:
Select Community from the top menu.
Select Groups from the submenu.
Stitch has three group types — Regular, Public, and Private — each with different membership access and geographic scope. See Types of Groups on Stitch for a full breakdown.
Navigating Stitch Groups
Each Group has five tabs. Here is what each one contains:
Group — Learn about the Group and post comments for other members.
Members — See a list of all members in the Group and contact them directly.
Activities — View upcoming Activities or create and publish your own.
Discussions — Read, contribute to, or start a Group discussion.
Photo Gallery — View photos shared by Group members.
Settings — Visible to group organizers and owners only. This is where organizers can manage Group settings, including the option to delete the Group.
The following sections describe some of the most frequently used features of Groups on Stitch, for both group members and for group owners.
Features for Group Members
The sections below cover the most common tasks for Group members and Group organizers.
Contacting other members of your group
To send a message to another member of your Group:
Open the Group and select the Members tab.
Find the member you want to contact.
Select the three vertical dots to the right of their name.
Select Message from the menu. Stitch opens a direct message conversation with that member.
Viewing upcoming activities and creating a new one
To view upcoming Activities for your Group, select the Activities tab.
To create a new Activity for your Group:
Select the Activities tab.
Select the green +Add new button at the top left of the section.
Follow the prompts to add details about your Activity.
Publish the Activity when ready — it will appear in the Group's Activities tab for all members to see.
Note: Creating an Activity here posts it to your Group only, not to the wider Stitch community.
Creating a new discussion for a Group
Discussions let Group members stay connected between Activities — sharing ideas, asking questions, or simply keeping in touch.
To start a new discussion:
Select the Discussions tab.
Select the green +Add new button.
Follow the prompts to add details about your discussion.
Post the discussion — it will appear in the Group's Discussions tab for all members.
If the Discussions tab is empty, you can be the first to start one.
How to leave a Group you have joined
To leave a Group:
Open the Group details page.
Select the red Leave Group button at the top of the page.
Important: Leaving a Group removes you from all group discussions, announcements, and event invitations. You will not be removed from Activities you have already joined. You can rejoin the Group at any time.
Features for Group Organizers
The following features are available to Group organizers and owners only.
Request to block a member from your group
As a Group organizer or owner, you can block a member from your Group if they are disrupting the experience for others.
To block a member:
Open your Group and select the Members tab.
Find the member you want to block.
Select the menu button (three dots) next to their name.
Select Block member.
Enter a reason for the block when prompted.
Important: When you submit a block request, the member receives an automatic notification that they have been blocked from the Group. The Stitch team then reviews the request and you will receive an email from the Stitch team once a decision has been made. Once confirmed, the member loses access to all Group events, discussions, and Activity in your Group, and is removed from any upcoming Activities.
If a member is violating Stitch's Community Guidelines, report them to Stitch instead of blocking them from your Group. Reporting allows the Stitch team to investigate and, if needed, suspend the member from the community entirely. This protects all members, not just your Group. You can block a member as well as reporting them, but reporting should be your first step when Community Guidelines are involved.
Control who can create activities and discussions
By default, any Group member can post an Activity or discussion to the Group. This reflects Stitch's philosophy that anyone who organizes or suggests something for others is doing something valuable for the community.
Group organizers and owners can control who is allowed to post Activities and discussions, and who is allowed to comment.
To update these settings:
Navigate to your Group's Settings tab.
Scroll to Posting Rules.
Toggle Allow members to post events and discussions to this group on or off. This saves automatically.
Scroll to Who can comment.
Use the dropdown to select who can comment — options include Any group member and organizer-only options.
Note: Restricting posting means only Group owners and co-organizers can create Activities or discussions. Restricting commenting limits who can respond to posts in the Group.
